A Note on Chronobiological Mudra Practice
This sequence aligns mudra practice with the body's natural circadian rhythms and the subtle energetic shifts that occur throughout the day. Mudras, or "seals," are precise hand gestures that direct the flow of prana (life force energy) within the body, much like a conductor guides an orchestra. As the mind's state and the body's elemental balance shift from dawn to deep night, specific mudras can help us attune to these changes, not resist them.
By using these hand gestures in harmony with the daily cycle, you work with the body’s innate intelligence to ground, create, empower, open, express, intuit, and finally, dissolve into stillness. The mudras suggested for each time slot are curated to support the dominant energetic quality of that period, helping to calm the nervous system, enhance focus, and cultivate a subtle, deeply nourishing sense of inner balance.
The list is quite exhaustive so as to help you select and choose a Mudra that best suits your need. It is not necessary to practice all the mudras in a given time slot. Simply choose one or two that resonate most deeply, hold them for 5-15 minutes, and allow their quiet influence to guide your energy.

2. Ganesha Mudra (Remover of Obstacles): Hold the left hand in front of the chest, palm facing out. Hook the fingers of the right hand into the left, palms facing each other. Pull gently apart. Builds courage, confidence, and removes the obstacles of lethargy and stiffness.
3. Ksepana Mudra (Gesture of Pouring Out): Interlace all fingers except the index fingers, which point straight down. Releases stagnant energy, tension, and impurities accumulated during sleep, clearing the way for a fresh start.
4. Adhara Mudra (Perineal Seal): Tip of the thumb touches the tips of the ring and little fingers. Redirects energy from the root chakra upward, channeling raw vitality into creative and spiritual force.
5. Pushan Mudra (Digestive Fire Stoker): Right hand: tips of thumb, index, and middle fingers together. Left hand: tips of thumb, middle, and ring fingers together. Stimulates digestion and elimination, honoring the body's natural morning cleansing rhythms.
6. Tse Mudra (Three Secrets Seal): Hands on thighs, palms up. Place the tip of the thumb at the base of the ring finger. On the inhale, curl the fingers around the thumb to form a gentle fist. Enhances a sense of security and containment, protecting one's energy field upon waking.
7. Bhu Mudra (Soil Gesture): Tip of the thumb presses into the middle of the palm, a point associated with the root chakra, while the fingers curl gently over it. A deeply personal gesture of connecting to the earth's supportive energy.
7 AM to 10 AM: Creativity and Flow (Sacral Chakra, Swadhisthana)
1. Varuna Mudra (Water Seal): Tip of the little finger touches the tip of the thumb. Increases the water element in the body, promoting fluidity, sensory connection, creativity, and the free flow of emotions.
2. Yoni Mudra (Womb Gesture): Interlace the pinky, ring, and middle fingers, while pressing the pads of the index fingers and thumbs together, forming an almond shape pointing down. Cultivates creative potential, receptivity, and a deep connection to the sacral energy source.

4. Kangula Mudra (Plover Bird Gesture): Bring the hands together at the heart, and open the fingers like a blooming bud, little finger sides touching, thumb sides separating. Awakens the senses and refines one's ability to taste, feel, and experience the world with fresh delight.
5. Apana Vayu Mudra (Heart-Sacral Harmonizer): Index finger curls to base of thumb; tips of thumb, middle, and ring fingers join; little finger extends. Harmonizes the playful, creative waters of the sacral chakra with the expansive energy of the heart.
10 AM to 1 PM: Power and Transformation (Solar Plexus Chakra, Manipura)
1. Agni Mudra (Fire Seal): Ring finger curls into the palm, and the thumb presses down on the second knuckle. Ignites the digestive fire and the fire of willpower, self-esteem, and transformation.
2. Rudra Mudra (Gesture of the Ruler): Tips of the thumb, index, and ring fingers join; the middle and little fingers remain extended. Activates the solar plexus, granting focused energy, clarity of purpose, and the power to manifest intentions.
3. Surya Mudra (Sun Seal): The ring finger is pressed down by the thumb. Increases the fire element and decreases the earth element, boosting metabolism, energy, and a dynamic, charismatic presence. The midday power gesture.
4. Prana Mudra (Life Force Seal): Tips of thumb, ring, and little fingers join; index and middle fingers extend. Activates the dormant pool of vital energy at the solar plexus, reducing fatigue and providing a powerful, sustained energy lift without adrenal stimulation.
5. Samana Vayu Mudra (Balancing Energy of Fire): Tips of all four fingers touch the tip of the thumb. Balances the samana vayu, the digestive fire centered at the solar plexus, ensuring power is harnessed for effective action and not wasted on agitation.
6. Ushas Mudra (Break of Day): Clasp hands with fingers interlaced. Alternately, for men: right thumb rests on left; for women: left thumb rests on right. This mudra, named after the dawn, channels a second peak of creative power and mental clarity for the midday work cycle.
1 PM to 4 PM: Love and Compassion (Heart Chakra, Anahata)
1. Hridaya Mudra (Heart Gesture): Index finger curls to the base of the thumb; tips of the middle and ring fingers join the tip of the thumb; little finger extends. A direct seal to release emotional tension, grief, and loneliness, opening the heart to compassion.
2. Padma Mudra (Lotus Seal): Bring the hands together at the heart, keeping the base of the palms, the thumbs, and the little fingers joined. Open the remaining fingers like a lotus flower blossoming. Symbolizes the heart's opening to pure love, abundance, and acceptance.
3. Vayu Mudra (Air Seal): Index finger curls to the base of the thumb, thumb presses gently on it. While primarily for air, in this heart-centered time, it helps release anxiety and mental "wind" that scatters loving-kindness, creating inner space for compassion.
4. Garuda Mudra (Eagle Seal): Right hand hooks over the left, with the thumbs linked, forming the majestic eagle. Promotes emotional balance, circulation of love, and the freedom that comes from releasing co-dependent patterns, fostering authentic connection.
5. Anjali Mudra (Prayer Seal): Palms pressed together at the heart center. The quintessential gesture of reverence, gratitude, and inner union. Quiets the internal dialogue and deepens the connection to one's own heart and the hearts of others.
6. Matangi Mudra (Goddess of Inner Harmony): Clasp hands at the solar plexus, then extend the middle fingers to touch, pointing straight up. Resolves inner conflict and disharmony, allowing the compassionate wisdom of the heart to guide the digestive fire of the gut.
4 PM to 7 PM: Purification and Expression (Throat Chakra, Vishuddha)
1. Akasha Mudra (Space/Ether Seal): Tip of the middle finger touches the tip of the thumb. Increases the space element, opening the throat chakra for clear, authentic communication and purification of thoughts.
2. Shunya Mudra (Heaven/Void Seal): The middle finger bends to press on the mound of the thumb, and the thumb presses down on the middle finger's knuckle. Opens a space of emptiness in the throat, allowing one to speak from a place of deep, resonant silence. Ideal before important conversations.
3. Granthita Mudra (Knot-Untying Seal): Interlace the little, ring, and middle fingers. The index fingers and thumbs are extended and pressed pad-to-pad against each other. Unravels the "psychic knots" that block truthful self-expression, particularly the Vishuddha granthi.
4. Kanta Mudra (Throat Seal): Gently cup the throat with the right hand (for men) or left hand (for women), palm not quite touching the skin. The other hand rests below the navel. A highly specific seal to open and soothe the throat, perfect for vocal rest or purification.
5. Simhamukha Mudra (Lion’s Face): Extend all five fingers forcefully apart, like a lion's claws. This dynamic gesture is a powerful purge of frustration and unspoken words, clearing the throat of energetic debris and making way for pure expression.
6. Mahakirita Mudra (Great Crown): Thumbs extend while the other fingers interlace deeply. Points the thumbs toward the throat while directing awareness there. Amplifies the purifying and expressive qualities of the throat center.
7 PM to 10 PM: Intuition and Insight (Third Eye Chakra, Ajna)

3. Uttarabodhi Mudra (Gesture of Supreme Enlightenment): Hands are interlaced, with the index fingers and thumbs extending straight up and joined. A powerful seal that clarifies inner vision and connects to the witness consciousness, the seer behind the seen.
4. Kalesvara Mudra (Lord of Time): Join the tips of the middle fingers; join the tips of the thumbs; curl the index fingers so the second knuckles touch; and interlace the ring and little fingers, pointing them inward toward the chest. Pacifies a ruminating mind obsessed with past and future, opening a portal to timeless, intuitive awareness.
5. Maha Bindu Mudra (Great Point Seal): The tip of the thumb presses gently between the eyebrows while the fingers rest softly on the forehead. Directly stimulates the third eye center, quieting mental chatter to allow the "great point" of inner light to emerge.
6. Shambhavi Mudra (Eyebrow Center Gazing): The hand gesture is simple (resting on the lap), but the focus is an inner gaze turned toward the space between the eyebrows. The external mudras support this internal gesture, the highest seal for awakening intuition.
10 PM to 1 AM: Transcendence and Bliss (Crown Chakra, Sahasrara)
1. Dhyana Mudra (Meditation Seal): Right hand rests over the left, palms up in the lap, with the tips of the thumbs gently touching. The classic gesture of the meditative mind, bringing profound tranquility, mental purity, and a state of empty receptivity.
2. Shunya Mudra (Void Seal): As before, but now its quality deepens. It creates a profound inner void, allowing the bliss of the individual self to dissolve into the cosmic consciousness, preparing the mind for sleep.
3. Bhairava Mudra (Shiva's Fierce Stillness): Right hand rests on top of the left hand in the lap, palms facing up. Represents the final non-dual union, the transcendent stillness of pure awareness from which bliss arises naturally.
4. Ananta Mudra (Endless Serpent): Extend the thumb and little finger outward while the index, middle, and ring fingers curl into the palm. Connects one to the concept of the infinite, fostering a state of boundless, oceanic bliss as the ego boundaries dissolve.
5. Maha Shunya Mudra (Great Void Gesture): Tips of the thumb, middle, and ring finger join; index and little fingers point straight down towards the earth. A surrender of the day’s triumphs and failures, creating an empty vessel to be filled only with the peace of the void.
6. Buddhi Mudra (Seal of Mental Clarity into Rest): Tip of the little finger touches the tip of the thumb. Before sleep, this clarifies the psychic channels, ensuring that the transition into the dream state is smooth and free of mental noise.
1 AM to 4 AM: The Deep Stillness
1. Stillness in sleep, the ultimate mudra of surrender.
2. Yoga Nidra Sankalpa Mudra: While lying in Savasana and practicing Yoga Nidra, simply hold the palms face-up with the fingers gently curled. This receptive position signifies the deep, conscious rest where true healing occurs.
3. Mritsanjivani Mudra (Life-Restoring Seal): Interlace all fingers to form a flat, woven basket in the lap while lying on the back. Symbolically catches and holds the subtle, restorative nectar of deep sleep, rejuvenating the deepest tissues of the body and mind.
