Scientific Name: Ocimum sanctum| English: Holy Basil | Most Indian Languages: Tulsi, Thulasi, Tulasi.

We start our day with Tulsi tooth powder. As and when we have access to the fresh herb, we chew a leaf or two, so as to benefit from its protective healing properties. It is one of the ingredients in our herbal tea and one of the most important herbs in our home made cough syrup. And yes, we use it for cooking, for making probiotic beverages and in our green juices.


Yes, I do love this herb, for its flavour, its aroma, its wide range of applications and for it being Anti everything that can cause inconvenience to us Humans. Read on and you will realize as to why this herb, filled with so many 'Anti' this and 'Anti' that sentiments is yet revered and respected


Holy Basil Properties:

Rich in Anti-oxidants, Broad spectrum Anti-bacterial, Anti-fungal, Anti-viral, Anti-protozoal, Anti-helmintic (Against worm infections), Anti-stress (Adaptogen: helps adapt to stress) , Anti-aging properties, Anti-diabetic, Anti-hypercholesterolemia, Anti-coagulant (Prevents clots and strokes), Anti-hypertensive (Helps normalise BP, hence Cardio-protective), Anti-cancer, Anti-allergic, Anti-inflammatory, Anti-pyretic (Reduces Fever), Anti-pain (Analgesic), Anti-depressant and Neuro-protective, Anti-spasmodic, Anti-cataract, Anti-emetic (Prevents Nausea and Vomitting)..

1. As an ingredient in Herbal Tea. Tulsi adds to the flavor and also helps prevent infections of any kind in children and adults alike. It is especially useful to help protect children from being infected by worms like pin worms, tapeworm and threadworms.

2. For making Tulsi toothpowder, so that it confers the benefits of chewing tulsi soon after waking up. Besides being flavourful, this powder also helps protect from tooth infections and from tartar builtup.

3. For making green juice. Add 1-2 tablespoon of Tulsi while making Prehealing Green Juice. Tulsi can also be added to Carrot, Beet Juice.

4. Half tsp of seeds are added to half a glass of water. The seeds swell up in a couple of minutes. These seeds are very good for those suffering from intestinal discomfort, acidity, ulcers, constipation etc.

5. Tulsi is also used as one of the ingredients in our home made cough syrup.
