Scientific Name: Cardiospermum Halicacabum | English: Balloon vine | Sanskrit: Jyotishmati, Karavi, Karnaspota, Paravata-pad | Hindi: Kahphata | Bengali: Nayaphataki, Lataphatkiri | Marathi: Kanphuti, Kakumardanika | Tamil: Modda-cottan, Mudakithan| Telugu: Nellagulisetenda, Vekkuditege | Malayalam: Ulinja, Paluruvam, Jyotishmati, | Kannada: Agniballi |


Medicinal Uses: Anti-inflamatory, Helps address pain: Pains due to gastrointestinal issues, due to Lumbago, Rheumatic and arthritic afflictions, Helps with calming cough, Nervine tonic.


Traditional uses:


  1. Leaves are boiled in castor oil and used to help reduce swellings as well as for Rheumatic and arthritic pains.

  2. The juice of the plant is used as ear drops to help address ear pain

  3. Herbal tea made by using this plant is an excellent nervine tonic, helps reduce rheumatic pains, is good for bronchitis and breathing disorders.
