Reasoning: Its Madhura (sweet) taste and Snigdha (unctuous) quality are highly nourishing and help balance Vata, promoting tissue building.
Daha (Burning Sensation) - Internal and External
Formulation: Rice water or rice flour paste.

1. Hordeum vulgare (Barley)* Species: Hordeum vulgare | Family: Poaceae | Genus: Hordeum* Similarities: Both are used in digestive recovery. However, barley gruel (Yavagu) is specifically used for its light, drying qualities in conditions of excess Kapha (obesity, edema), while rice gruel is used for its nourishing qualities in Vata and Pitta conditions.
2. Echinochloa frumentacea (Indian Barnyard Millet/Sawa)* Species: Echinochloa frumentacea | Family: Poaceae | Genus: Echinochloa* Similarities: A minor millet that is gluten-free and highly nutritive. It is considered even cooler and lighter than rice, making it an excellent grain for pacifying Pitta and for use during summers. It is used similarly to rice in porridges and meals.
